Six-spotted Fishing Spider Dolomedes tenebrosus Six-spotted Fishing Spider

What are they?

These are ground-living spiders that roam actively in search of prey. The group also includes the fishing spiders - species which hunt invertebrate prey on lilypads and even on the water surface itself.

Identification

Medium to large, silkily hairy spiders that differ from wolf spiders by resting with their legs outstretched and pressed against the ground, having eight eyes all of more or less the same size (two eyes larger in wolf spiders) and carrying their egg bundles in their mouth not attached to their spinnerets.
