Cellar Spiders
What are they?
Slender-bodied, spindle-legged spiders that thrive indoors and are doubtless to be found in every house in the region. Their rather slender form, coupled with their usually pale coloration can render them hard to spot. Their webs are an open weave of a few cross-cross strands, which can also be hard to spot until they start to collect the dried husks of past meals.
Identification
A difficult group of mostly rather similar, slender-bodied spiders. Identification to species is often only possible by close examination of external genitalia.
Long-bodied Cellar Spider Pholcus phalangioides
An abundant spider of houses and other buildings, where they make their open-weave webs high in the corners of a room.
