The Pyralids
What are they?
A large group of usually rather small moths, the Pyralids have often been included together in a single family with the Crambids. This family contains a number of species which can be considered pests as their larvae feed on stored foods and food products.
Identification
Though there are a few exceptions, most species are narrow-winged and many have cryptic coloration. Identification can sometimes be tricky and careful attention needs to be paid to the position of dark and pale bands and their exact shape.
