The Psychids

Evergreen Bagworm Evergreen Bagworm Evergreen Bagworm

What are they?

Psychid moths are not seen all that often but their larval cases are common and reveal that these moths are often pretty common. The larvae make themselves a case to live in - the 'bag' that gives them their English name - which is made of a combination of silk, spun by the larva and bits of vegetation from the foodplant.

Identification

Adult moths are all rather similar, making identification to species difficult Females are rarely seen as they often mate, lay eggs and die without leaving their bag.
