Pinions, Sallows and allies
What are they?
A group that pulls together four tribes in the Noctuinae subfamily of the Owlets: Xylenini, Ufeini, Orthosiini and Tholerini.
Identification
A very large group consisting largely of rather plain, brownish moths, though often with rich rusty tones. Careful attention to lines and other spots and marks on the wings should make most species fairly easily identifiable. The Bronzed Cutworms form a tribe on their own and differ from other species in this group by having a bronzed sheen to the wings.
