Groundlings & Ferns

Pied Groundling Green Leuconycta Silver-spotted Fern

What are they?

The Groundlings are a group of usually brown moths with paler markings while the Ferns can be more attractively-marked with bright white or even silver. Both form subfamilies within the Noctuidae and the latter get their group name from the fact that all the North American species have ferns as larval foodplants.
