The Elachistids
What are they?
A rather variable bunch of small to very small moths which are difficult to categorize neatly as they are a very diverse group. Caterpillars are often leaf miners or leaf tiers and feed on a wide range of plant species.
Identification
Though species in this group are mostly quite different to each other based on external characteristics such as wing markings, in reality, identification can be difficult simply because they are so small.
