Bristletails
What are they?
The bristletails are a group of primitive insects, some of which spend their lives in leaf litter in forested habitats, while others are often found in homes, where they can become pests, feeding on starchy products such as dried foods and, occasionally materials such as glue in book bindings.
Identification
A group of slender, fast-moving insects, many of which look shiny due to a coating of silvery scales. Most species have three slender 'tails' at the back end of the body.
Gray Silverfish Ctenolepisma longicaudata
Most like to be found in woodland habitats, where they feed on detritus in leaf litter and may often be found on the trunk of trees, especially those with craggy or flaky bark that offer plenty of hiding places.
