The Wintergreens
What are they?
Wintergreens are closely related to the blueberries and heaths and share with them a liking for acid soils. These are low-growing herbaceous perennials that mostly can be found in heavily shaded woodland, particularly under evergreen trees. They should not be confused with Checkerberry (Gaultheria procumbens) which is also sometimes known as wintergreen and produces the medicinal wintergreen.
