Fall Phlox Phlox paniculata
Though north New Jersey is within the native range of this species, it is commonly grown as a garden plant and the occasional specimen found on roadsides and waste ground in South Jersey originate from stray seed and garden throw-outs. Flowers July to September. Flowers may be white or various shades of pink, red or purple.

Moss Phlox Phlox subulata
Though north New Jersey is within the native range of this species, the few Cape May records are isolated and this species probably only occurs here as an escape from cultivation (this plant is commonly grown as a garden plant). Occasionally found in short grass on roadsides and in cemeteries. Flowers April to June.
